On Sunday June 6th 1999, history was made at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Tony “Plugger” Lockett entered the record books as the highest goal scorer in V.F.L./A.F.L. history. When Lockett scored his third goal in the game between Sydney and Collingwood, he notched up his 1300th career goal and eclipsed the 62 year-old record held by Collingwood’s Gordon Coventry. The goal came after the siren sounded to end the first quarter.
